Should You Let Sleeping Members Lie?

Written By James Charles

In theory an empty club with 10,000 members earns the same as a constantly full club with 10,000 members… right? The problem with theory is… it doesn’t always work in practice. And with this example this is certainly the case!

As someone involved in the running of a health and fitness club one of your primary goals should be, to borrow a phrase from ukactive, to get “More People, More Active, More Often”.

There are many benefits to taking part in regular exercise, the most obvious being health related.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, referenced in the Start Active, Stay Active report by the Chief Medical Officers for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, regular exercise can reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes by up to 35% and getting type 2 diabetes by up to 40%; daily exercise can reduce the risk of developing depression or dementia by up to 30%.

What you might not be so aware of is the financial benefit to your club of increased member visit frequency.

Research conducted in August 2015, as part of the TRP 10,000™ study, shows a strong correlation between the number of times a member visits their club each week and how long they end up staying a member; thus increasing the revenue they generate for your club…

Getting your members to be regular, engaged, active users of your facilities can not only enhance their lives but can also improve your bottom line.
